Kalamansi Juice: Tastes Great + 1001 Uses
When I was on vacation in Singapore in July, I had fresh squeezed kalamansi (also called calamansi or calamondin) juce. It’s refreshing and tastes like lime juice, but not as tart. Great to drink on a hot day.
Kalamansi is a citrus fruit native to the Phillipines. When it is unripe, it looks like a small lime. It turns yellow to orange when it ripens.
Besides tasting great, Kalamansi has number of other uses. It can be used as a:
- Hair conditioner
- Deodorant
- Ink stain remover
- Insect bite treatment
- Acne treatment
- Freckle bleaching solution
- Cough remedy
- Poison antidote
After I got back to the U.S., I wondered whether I could find any kalamansi juice here. I went to my local Asian supermarket and after searching for a while, found a few different types of kalamansi juice for sale.
After trying them, I found that the Gina brand calamansi juice in cans tasted pretty good. The Philippine brand Sweetened Lemonsito Puree, which is a calamansi juice concentrate, was also very good. You mix 1 part of the concentrate with 5 parts of water.
Have you ever tried kalamansi juice? How do you like it? What’s your favorite brand? Tell me in the comments.
