Holiday Gift Ideas for Runners - More Stocking Stuffers

Here are a few more stocking stuffers for the runner on your list:

Protection from Friction

If the runner on your list is preparing for a marathon or other long distance event, they might appreciate some product that will help them get to the finish line with all their skin intact.

Spot Bandages

Specialized products such as NipGuards have been developed to prevent nipple chafing, which is a common problem for male runners.  NipGuards sell 10 pair for about $10-15, making them an expensive proposition for regular long distance runners.

I use small, round spot bandages from my local CVS store, which sell at about $4 for 100 (50 pair), or less than 1/10 the price of NipGuards.

There are also several products you can apply to prevent chafing in other areas, including Body GlideUdderly SMooth, and ASICS Chafe Free Endurance.  I’ve used all three of these product in the past and they all work well.

Body GlideBody Glide comes in a deodorant stick-type package. It’s a little bit “waxy” when it goes on, but it stays were you put it, no matter how much you sweat. Udderly SMooth is a cream that was originally developed for cows.

ASICS Chafe Free Endurance uses a dry boron-nitride based lubricant and also works well. The only downside of this is that its difficult to tell where you have already applied it, since it isn’t greasy.

Sore Muscle Relief

Runners get sore muscles and minor aches and pains. They appreciate gifts that can help them feel better. Packages of the Salonpas Pain Relief Patch or Air Salonpas Pain Relief Spray are a nice item for your runner’s stocking. I recently pulled a muscle in my back and used the Salonpas Pain Relief Patch on it. It felt better after a couple of days.

When I ran cross country in high school in the late ‘70’s, we used to use an sticky, orange subtance known as Atomic Balm to help warm up our muscles before races, especially on cold days. It’s very strong, like Bengay on steroids.

Foot Rubz Massage BallA Foot Rubz Massage Ball is also a nice stocking stuffer for runners who have sore feet.

Biofreeze is another product that provides temporary relief from sore muscles.

Running Safety

Nathan Clip On Safety StrobeNathan Clip-On Deluxe L.E.D. Safety Strobe is a great item for the stocking of a runner who ventures out at night or at dawn or dusk.

Around this time of year, there are a lot of nighttime races. If the runner on your list is planning to run in one of these events or if they run a lot at night, they might appreciate some LED Shoe Laces in holiday colors.

Gone Running Sign that tells when your runner plans to return may also help you make sure that they are safe.

What to you plan to put your runner’s stocking this year? Tell me in the comments.
