Tart Cherry Juice Fuels Shalane Flanagan’s Marathon Debut
As she prepares for her marathon debut in the New York City Marathon on Nov. 7, Olympic Bronze Medalist Shalane Flanagan is using the tart cherry juice product Cheribundi to reduce muscle soreness and speed recovery.
Tart cherry juice contains very high levels of anti-oxidants called anthocyanins, which can act as an anti-inflammatory. Cheribundi is available in three varieties: Tru Cherry (with the juice from 50 cherries in an 8 oz bottle), Skinny Cherry (a lower calorie version sweetened with Stevia), and Whey Cherry (with 8 oz of whey protein).
I’ve used (and written about) tart cherry juice before. I think it can help you to recover more quickly from tough workouts and races.
If you have a marathon coming up, you can buy a 12 pack of 8 oz. bottles of Cheribundi’s Tru Cherry here. If you drink one a day for the 6 days leading up to the race and for the 6 days following the race, your muscle soreness should be reduced and you should be able to get back to running more quickly.
Have you used tart cherry juice or Cheribundi? What do you think? Tell me in the comments.
Update:
Shalane Flanagan finished 2nd in the NYC Marathon in a time of 2:28:40. She also won the U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon in a time of 2:25:38.
Disclosure: After I wrote this post, Cheribundi sent me some free samples of Tru Cherry for evaluation.
