Running Hero - Ed Whitlock
Ed Whitlock is the holder of 14 age group world records from the mile to the marathon. He was the first (and so far, only) person over 70 to run a marathon in under 3 hours. His time of 2:54:48 at age 73 is the age-graded equivalent of a 20 year old running a 2:03:57.
Ed ran as a teenager, then took up running again in his 40’s. He does all his runs on a short, 5 minute loop around Evergreen Cemetery in Milton, Ontario, a few blocks from his house. He runs on this loop in the cemetery for up to 3 hours a day.
Ed has proven that you are never too old to set new records and inspire others.
Update: Ed Whitlock recently turned 80 and has already set a couple of new age group world records, including 3:15:54 in the Toronto Marathon.
