The 4-Hour Body: How to Lose 20 Pounds in 30 Days without Exercise
I recently bought Tim Ferriss’ new book, The 4-Hour Body. It contains some very interesting chapters on reducing bodyfat, adding muscle, perfecting sleep, reversing injuries, running faster and further, and even improving your sex life. Since it covers so many topics, I’m going to review different parts of it over the course of several posts.
In The 4-Hour Body, Tim claims that you can lose 20 pounds in 30 days without exercise by following what he calls the Slow-Carb Diet. There are five rules to the Slow-Carb Diet:
1. Avoid “white” carbohydrates. No bread, rice, cereal, potatoes, pasta, etc.
2. Eat the same few meals over and over again. Mix and match proteins, beans, and vegetables to create a short list of reliable, repeatable meals that will help drive rapid weight loss.
3. Don’t drink calories. No milk, soft drinks (even diet), or fruit juice. Up to two glasses of red wine per night are allowed.
4. Don’t eat fruit. Too much natural sugar in fruit.
5. Take one day off per week. No limits. Helps keep your body from shifting into a calorie-conserving starvation mode.
This seems like a tough diet to follow, but I’m going to give it a try for a few weeks. I’ll let you know how I do.
Note: I found this diet to be too restrictive, especially when traveling or visiting family or friends. I wasn’t able to maintain it for more than a few days at a time and didn’t experience any measurable weight loss.
Have you tried the Slow-Carb Diet? What were your results? Tell me in the comments.
