Save Your Knees - Keep Running!

KneesConventional wisdom is that running wears down your knees and will lead to osteoarthritis of the knee joint.  Since, I’m missing some of the cartilage in my right knee, I’m a potential candidate for early osteoarthritis. Should I stop running?

Recent studies say that I shouldn’t.  MRI scans of marathoners knees showed no major new internal damage after 10 years.  A study of middle-aged distance runners in their 50’s and 60’s showed that 20 years later, when they were in their 70’s and 80’s, their knees were actually in better shape than non-runners of the same age.

How are your knees holding up?  Have you suffered a knee injury?  Tell me in the comments.
