Snowed In? Don’t Stop Running!
Many people are grappling with the aftermath of “Snowmaggedon” and you may feel like you have to put off running until the roads are clear again or stick to the treadmill. I had a chance to try out the YakTrax Pro traction device recently on snow-covered icy roads in Northern Michigan.
I found that I was able to run safely in them without fear of slipping or falling. I don’t think that you can really run “all out” in these, but you can definitely get in a solid workout.
I was careful not to run at full speed on downhills and found that the YakTrax had a tendency to slip to the side a little on heavily crowned roads and on corners.
The YakTrax Pro’s differ from the standard YakTrak’s. They have a Velcro strap that goes across the forefoot to hold them on securely.
You can run on pavement in the YakTrax. The rubber portion gives you some cushion and grip, although you are stepping on the metal coils.
YakTrax Pro’s normally sell for about $30, but I have recently seen some on sale for around $24. If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow, you should consider getting some YakTrax.
