High Protein Diets May Have Hidden Risks
Recent research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, indicates that high protein, low carbohydrate diets that some people use to lose weight may cause metabolism changes that can increase the risk of colon cancer.
After four weeks on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet (137 g protein, 143 g fat, and 22 g carbs), the study participants were found to have higher levels of N-nitroso compounds and other metabolites that have been linked to cancer. If you are on a high protein diet, one way that the researchers say may help to prevent this is to consume plenty of fiber.
Are you on a high protein diet? What results have you seen? Have you have any negative health effects? Tell me the comments.
