Can Eating Cereal Save Your Life?

CerealA recent research study involving 13,000 men over a 17 year period has shown that eating cereal for breakfast can reduce your risk of developing high blood pressure by up to 20%.  Whole-grain cereals seem to be slightly better at reducing blood pressure than cereals made from refined grains.

High blood pressure increases the risk of heart attacks, congestive heart failure, and stroke.  It is possible that cereal isn’t actually causing the lower blood pressure and that cereal eaters happen to have other healthy behaviors that are causing their blood pressure to be lower.  Until we know for sure, a bowl of whole-grain cereal now and then can’t hurt.

Do you love cereal in the morning or hate it?  What are your favorite brands?  Tell me in the comments.
