3 Cheap GPS Watches for Runners

Our friends at Garmin have done us a big favor.  As with many things electronic, the price of GPS watches continues to come down over time.

As Garmin has introduced newer, smaller GPS watches with more features, it has kept some of the older models on the market.  These are where you can find some great values.

The Garmin Forerunner 301 with Heart Rate Monitor currently sells for about $105.  It has a somewhat “chunky” design, but works very well.  I started out with the Garmin Forerunner 201, which is basically the same model, but without the Heart Rate Monitor.  I used it for years and had very good luck with it. (Note: as of Dec 2010, these units are hard to find and sometimes cost more than the more advanced Garmin Forerunner 205 and 305).

The Garmin Forerunner 205 currently sells for about $115.  It has all the features you might need in a GPS watch, except a Heart Rate Monitor.  It is smaller than the 301 and has a more sensitive antenna.

The Garmin Forerunner 305 with Heart Rate Monitor currently sells for under $130.  I use this model now and love it.  I think it’s a great value at this price.
