Tart Cherry Protein Recovery Drink Recipe

Cherry Juice, image courtesy of CMIStudies have shown that tart cherry juice helps to reduce muscle pain after strenuous running workouts.  But we also know that when you drink straight fruit juice, it is absorbed slowly by the body, because it has too high a concentration of carbohydrates. 

A 4:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein has also been found to be idea for the repair of muscle damage after exercise.  After exercise, we also need to replace electrolytes lost through sweat.

With these facts in mind, I have created the following recipe:

Tart Cherry Protein Recovery Drink

8 oz Tart Cherry Juice

8 oz Cold Water

2 Tablespoons Whey Protein Powder (flavored or unflavored)

1 Nuun Electrolyte Tablet (Tri-Berry or other flavor)

Combine the Tart Cherry Juice and Water.  Add the Whey Protein Powder.  Blend until well mixed.  Add 1 Nuun Tablet.  Allow to dissolve.

Drink immediately after exercise.
