Make Your Own Huarache Running Sandals

Huarache Running SandalsI noticed a guy in a local race wearing a pair of Huarache running sandals, similar to those worn by the Tarahumara Indians, featured in the book Born to Run.  I wondered where he got them.

One of my readers, Michael, told me recently about Invisible Shoes, a website that sells kits to make your own Huarache running sandals.  For $20-25, depending on the size of our foot, they will provide you with all the materials and instructions you need to make your own pair of Huarache running sandals.

If you don’t want to make your own sandals, Invisible Shoes will make a custom pair for you from a tracing of your foot for $50.  When you order custom-made sandals, Invisible Shoes donates 10% of their profits to the Tarahumara Children’s Hospital Fund to support the indigenous people of the Copper Canyon.

Have you run in Huarache running sandals?  Have you made your own sandals?  Tell me in the comments.

Disclaimer: I received a kit to make my own Huarache running sandals from Invisible Shoes.
